Here are Seven methods of meditation.
These are all partly related to finding the Earth through your
spiritual self. These methods will round out your connection
to the Earth.
7 Methods of Meditation
1. On Christmas sit in meditation and do the
Hindu mantra A-U-M. This is done by closing the eyes and repeating
the letters of the mantra. The letters are pronounced Ah-oo-em. The
Ah is like Father, the oo is like food and the em is like empire.
This is recommended by the Vedas. It is extra good because it makes
you a Hindu. This is the most auspicious mantra, and according to
Swami Mantrananda, my heart of knowledge says to do it on December
25. This will be enough of this mantric meditation for the year.
There is plenty of other meditations that can be done and a lot that
help a person find their own favorable self. This mantra like most
of them can be repeated silently for up to twenty minutes in a
meditation posture.
2. The second method is done at night before
you go to bed: repeat a single repetition of the mantra Hari Om.
This will notify your spirit that it is time to go to sleep and
you have effectively prayed to Lord Hari to love your ancestors.
Also a person wishing to meditate before bed can use the mantra
Hari Om for your meditation mantra. The mantra Hari Om is
a healing mantra to help you clarify yourself and heal yourself
before you go to bed. It will help preserve your health.
3. The third method is to do a Zodiac
meditation twelve times per year. This is done by meditating on the
Sign of the Zodiac on the day that it changes to the next Sign. For
example, the first day of spring is Aries. First of all read a book
about the sign of Aries and then feel the changes of the light of
the Sun into the Sign of Aries.
This will give you knowledge of the Signs of the
Zodiac of which man is a part of. As a passing thought, I think that
most of us become inharmonious with the Signs of the Zodiac, so we
are "sad" in some ways. This meditation will only increase your
happiness. That is about all, and it will take about twelve days out
a year to think about it and understand it, by reading about it,
then meditating on it, and by the way, one of these Signs of the
Zodiac is still supposed to be your birth Sign.
4. The fourth method is to go to the Ocean
and stand upon the sand and with silence look at the waves coming in
and be self realized in about ten minutes. Well, what will you be
self realized in, that almost nothing is even worth looking at
anyway for most people, so just stand their and look at the waves in
silence and the space all the way out to the horizon. The
crashing of the waves lets you stop thinking, it works. People go
there. Here is a letter from Pamela.
Dear Swamiji,
I tried your meditation technique and it was
happy but is that all there is to this stuff. Does that make
California the place to be, it is already crowded isn’t it? Aren’t
we supposed to look for sea shells?
Pamela
Dear Pamela,
This meditation on the Ocean will align your
hips, that is about all, but this might never happen without
standing there looking at the ocean and being silent. The ocean is
actually "on" and has enough life in it to make you significantly
aligned at your hips. I won’t tell you secrets of the Ocean.
Love,
Swamiji
5. The fifth method: Be kind to your town.
This is actually a good meditation method, but hard to transfer to
other people. First of all you have to stop negative thinking about
your town that you live in before this can even get started. Your
town represents your Earth home. So if
you dislike your hometown, this will be a tuff assignment. After you
have given up having negative thought about your town or city, then
you can begin this amazing and wonderful meditation.
The first step is to like the name of your
town, without worrying about its so called history.
The second step is to like the center of town
so you are at least happy that the town has a good "down town area."
If this is hard to do, then go down there and find something about
it that you do like. This will work.
Third step, find a place outside of town and
sit down to meditate and keep in mind that the city or town is over
there, which is appropriate for that town. Then in your wisdom thank
the forefathers and mothers of the town for their work to make it a
town. Someone made the town after all, so give thanks.
Forth step, create a fourth meditation step
for you. Now you are Vishnu’s friend since you love what is there.
6. The sixth method. Now that you are
happier in your town, you must do something to increase the light
in your home. Find a one foot square space in your home and
decide to put something there that will give you peace of mind. I
will give you examples, but these might be secrets.
Secret one: Put a white plate on the square
and put a piece of fruit in the plate. This way you can meditate on
the piece of fruit and tell Krishna that you are going to eat the
fruit (don’t use apples for obvious reason, or snakes will hypnotize
you.) If you don’t tell Krishna, then tell the God of your choice,
or just say "Lord." Everyone calls the Lord by the name "Lord" just
in case there is only one Lord.
Secret two: Leave the square foot that is to
be used to find peace of mind in your home empty until you
spontaneously find out what to do with this space.
Secret three: Go to the store and shop for
something for the square foot of space that will give you peace of
mind.
Secret four: Set the space to be used only
for the morning when you get up so it will start your day.
7. The seventh method: We can be happier in
our town, have peace in our home, and there may be another step
after that. We would logically have to be happier with our
country to some extent. Who knows how to do this? Using a
meditation technique that is simple and will work to make you
happier in your country seems unapproved by me. It just will not
work, life is too complicated to even try such a thing. So we stick
with other aspects of life that are typical of using meditation for.
All of these methods will help you just live, who knows how to cure
a single person of an ill, if it is not a physical ill. Few would
know this, thus the approach of meditation is to learn what
meditation can do and so we will try to save the day of Sunday as a
day of rest. This should help everything.
Sunday is our day of rest and there is a Mantra
to use on Sunday. Om Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram. This can be
repeated silently for twenty minutes or so and also repeated off and
on throughout the day on Sunday. This Mantra will harmonize you with
some spiritual time on Sunday in which you rest and have some
thought about God, the Self and Yoga.
